2015 Rikubetsu Student Visit to Lacombe
The Lacombe and District Rikubetsu Friendship Society welcomed this year’s delegation from Rikubetsu, Japan, on the morning of Saturday, September 19, 2015. The troupe of 17 boys and girls, along with chaperones and an interpreter, were greeted at Terrace Ridge School by members of the Friendship Society, the host families and special guests.
Mayor Steve Christie welcomed the students and thanked them for continuing the enduring relationship our communities have shared for 29 years.
Rikubetsu Town representative Kayo Oyamaguchi presented Friendship Society President Marcia Neufeld with a gift and thanked the society and the community-at-large for our hospitality and friendship. Each of the youngsters then introduced themselves and listed a couple of their hobbies and interests, such as sports and music.
While in Lacombe, the student's itinerary included a trip to the Kraay Family Corn Maze, a tour of Lacombe, and free time at the YU-Turn. The children also visited the Royal Tyrell Museum in Drumheller, where they were amazed by the dinosaur displays.
The delegation will say farewell to their host families tonight and head back home to Rikubetsu early tomorrow morning, taking with them new-found friends and lasting memories of Lacombe and of Alberta, which will help build on the legacy of goodwill between the twinned communities of Rikubetsu and Lacombe.
We wish the Rikubetsu students safe travels, and we look forward to their next visit.
