BOLT Transit unites Lacombe, Blackfalds and Red Deer August 25, 2014
The City of Lacombe and Town of Blackfalds are excited to announce that the regional public transit service connecting the two communities to the city of Red Deer, ‘BOLT Transit’, is set to launch August 25, 2014. The bus service is cost-shared by Lacombe and Blackfalds, and will be operated by Red Deer Transit.
“This partnership is a significant achievement and a great example of regional collaboration, and it will provide an important quality of life benefit to a large number people by connecting our communities,” said Lacombe Mayor Steve Christie. “The residents of both communities will find that the bus service provides good access at an affordable price.”
“We have been getting lots of positive feedback from the community on this initiative,” said Blackfalds Mayor Melodie Stol. “Blackfalds Town Council is very excited about this new service, and we see tremendous opportunity in linking our three communities through public transit.”
Most recently, residents were consulted on the logo they wish to represent the brand. A recommendation as to the final design will be made to both Councils at their respective meetings in June 2014. Also announced were the transit routes, schedules and fare information.
“The BOLT transit buses will make six trips a day during the day, and three trips on Saturdays,” said Community and Economic Development Manager Guy Lapointe. “The new energy-efficient buses are built with innovative methods and lighter components, to ensure that transit travel is a safe, accessible and convenient option for passengers.”
The regional transit project would not have been possible without cooperation between the three partner municipalities and the Alberta Government. It is designed to improve the long-term viability and sustainability of the area through strategic activities related to regional collaboration, capacity building, and the promotion of economic prosperity.
