2013 Coffee with Council Draws Exceptional Public Response

Over 70 citizens attended this year's Coffee with Council Session at the Lacombe Tradeshow.
The 2013 Coffee with Council session, held at the Lacombe Tradeshow & Lacombe Lifestyle Expo on April 13th, drew a record number of engaged residents who shared their issues, concerns and ideas with attendant Council members.

"It was encouraging to see more people being engaged in the civic process," said Mayor Steve Christie. "We received a lot of good feedback from residents, which will be gathered for Council’s review and discussion at the April 22 meeting.”

Mayor Christie and members of Council answer resident questions.
A broad range of issues were raised, with the dominant themes revolving around garbage collection and disposal, recycling and city infrastructure. City managers were also on hand to share information and answer questions about current civic initiatives.

Lacombe Police Service also had a presence at the event.
The impact of the Coffee With Council sessions on the community and City administration has been variable. Resident feedback from previous sessions have led to policy and bylaw adjustments (e.g. snow removal policy).

The events are held semi-annually to give Council an opportunity to interact with residents in an informal setting. However, only one session was held this year due to the General Municipal Election being held this fall.
