City of Lacombe ranked 8th Best Place to Live in Canada

The City of  Lacombe has been ranked  8th overall in the best places to live in Canada category  for 2013  by MoneySense, Canada’s leading personal finance magazine and personal finance website.

“This year’s ranking is a testament to the hard work and dedication shown by the community to establish Lacombe as a community of choice,” said Mayor Steve Christie. “We are all very proud of our community, and Council is committed to maintaining this positive momentum into the future.”

Alberta’s newest city, Lacombe is growing quickly, thanks in part to a strong economy, low taxes, and a vibrant cultural scene.

In addition to its 8th overall finish, the city placed 3rd on the best small cities in Canada list, and ranked 10th in the best places to raise kids.

“This recognition attests to the quality of life that exists in Lacombe for residents and businesses alike,” said Chief Administrative Officer Norma MacQuarrie. “However, we recognize that there is always room for improvement, and we are working diligently towards becoming the most beautiful city in Alberta with a passion for long-term sustainability.”

“We’ve always had a stable economic sector with federal and provincial government employers, educational institutions, and a mix of industrial and agricultural businesses,” said Community and Economic Development Manager Guy Lapointe. “We are now sharpening our retail focus with the development of the Wolf Creek Crossing shopping centre, and the revitalization of our historic downtown.”

The magazine uses information on Census Metropolitan Areas and Census Agglomeration areas as defined by Statistic Canada, weighing and ranking 200 cities and towns nationwide by various categories.
